If you are about to start treatment that may make you lose your hair, the most useful thing you can do is come in beforehand, while you still have it. That way we copy your exact colour, your hair type and your density, and the day you need it choosing takes thirty minutes instead of a whole afternoon. This page is the practical part: when to come, what we take from that visit and how we make it comfortable.
Come before you lose it, even if you buy nothing
This is the most important thing on this page. With your own hair in front of us we can see things that would otherwise have to be rebuilt from memory or from a photo:
- The exact colour. Not “brown”: your brown, with its reflections and your greys if you have them. We match it against the brands’ real swatches and write it down.
- The hair type. Straight, wavy or curly; fine or thick. It is what makes a wig look like yours rather than like a wig.
- The density. How much hair you normally have. A wig with more density than you had is one of the biggest giveaways.
- The hairline and parting. Where it starts, which side you part it, how much forehead you show.
- The length. Whether you want to keep looking the same or would rather take the chance to change, which is a perfectly good option and one many people choose.
With that on record we can hold a reference for you and let you know whether that model and colour are still available, instead of searching against the clock. And if you end up deciding not to wear a wig, that is fine: the visit is free and commits you to nothing.
The visit is private
Nobody tries anything on in front of the shop. We work by appointment and in a closed cabin, with one adviser and all the time you need. Come alone or with someone, whichever you prefer.
If you would rather not leave home, we also offer video consultations. It does not replace trying wigs on, but it helps you see models, clear up doubts and arrive with half the work already done.
We also measure your head
Size is what separates a wig you forget you are wearing from one that reminds you all day. We measure it here in a minute — circumference, front to nape and ear to ear — but if you prefer to do it at home first, we explain it step by step in how to measure your wig size.
Two things to bear in mind: most models have an adjustable fit, and the circumference changes slightly once you lose your hair. That is why we leave the fine adjustment until you actually start wearing it.
Human hair or synthetic?
There is no single right answer, and be wary of anyone who gives you one. Broadly:

It is not all wigs
Many people combine: the wig for going out, and something lighter for home or for sleeping. Turbans, caps and scarves weigh less and keep your head warm. It is common to take both and see what you feel like each day. More detail in chemo turbans.
Caring for it is easier than it looks
A synthetic wig is washed with a specific shampoo, rinsed and left to air-dry on a stand: it returns to shape on its own. No hot dryers or straighteners unless the model is heat-resistant. Step by step in how to wash a synthetic wig, and everything else under maintenance.

About the money
As a general rule, the Spanish public health service and CatSalut do not fund wigs for adults. There are some sources of help, and it is worth knowing them before you decide:
- AECC: free wig loan bank.
- Barcelona City Council: wig bank in partnership with the AECC.
- MUFACE (civil servants): up to €200 a year towards a hair system.
They are explained in more detail in financial help for oncology wigs in Catalonia. If you have private insurance, check your policy: some cover part of it and it is not always obvious. And keep the invoice — we always give you one, and some schemes require it.
What we usually hear
Will it show?
If the colour, density and size are well chosen, no. What gives a wig away is almost never the hair itself: it is that it looks too perfect, too dense, or a shade that does not sit well with your skin.
Can I try them all on?
Yes, as many as you like. That is what the appointment is for, and why it lasts 45 minutes.
What if I do not feel up to coming in?
Call us and we will talk it through, or start with a video consultation. There is no rush at all.
